A while ago there were a few grand old residences for sale in The Rocks in Sydney and when they went for sale I was very interested... not as a buyer but just as an interested punter... it was $1.7 million after all...
They are enormous houses that once would have housed the elite of Sydney with servants quarters and many many reception rooms and bedrooms.... but sadly they fell into disrepair and had been used as accomodation for the Maratime Services and Dept of Housing flats...
When sold some lucky bugger got a chance to renovate them and a 99 yr lease to go with it... so the Dept of Housing officially still own it. Also they are heritage listed... sounds like a renovation disaster to me but a few daring people are going for it and the Sydney Morning Herald is going to be along for the ride....
